A meeting of the French electors of the Parish was held at the mouth of the Painsec road, on Saturday evening, to consider the propriety of bringing forward a candidate for the office of Councillor. The result was the selection of Mr. Dennis A. Bourgeois, merchant, an educated and intelligent young man, who will be pretty likely to command a large amount of confidence. The French electors of this Parish are nearly one-third of the whole, and they think it not unreasonable to ask for one of the Councillors each alternate year. While we do not approve of this reasoning, our idea being that the best men, French or English, should always be chosen, yet we can cordially wish Mr. Bourgeois success not because he is a Frenchman, but because he will make as good a Councillor as the Parish is likely to get. As a rule it is well to put forward our intelligent young men for these positions, as they are ambitious and likely to learn the duties quickly and discharge them faithfully.
