Quebec, May 13 A number of members of the Union Canadienne, who have been loading the “Scotland” at Point Platoon, returned to town last evening. Landing from barges at Cape Blanc they ascended the Champlain steps to go to St. Roche, but while crossing the plains were attacked, by a number of men in ambush near the Ladies Protestant Home. One man named Francois Durand was badly beaten. Shortly afterwards a gang of men, armed with sticks and muskets, arrived on the scene from St. Roche and though several shots were fired it does not appear that any one was hurt. The police board, apparently imagining that more trouble was expected, made an application for military assistance and, Col. Duchesnay, D.A.G. has called out the 8th and 9th Battalions, both of which are under arms, though it is almost certain that their services will not be required. The 8th and 9th are both at the Citadel.
