Concerning Acadians.

The Acadians of Shediac who, like their compatriots in other parts of the provinces, have been honored by a visit from M. Rameau, the historian, are preparing to entertain their distinguished guest at a banquet. The Moniteur Acadien calls M. Rameau, “the historian of Acadia par excellence.” It adds that he commenced the study of Acadian history 32 years ago, and in I859 published "La France aux colonies," a work which contains much valuable information concerning the early Acadians. Afterwards, he visited America and on his return published an account of his journey In 1878 appeared the best, an most learned of his historic works, "Une Colonie feodale en Amerique," which treats of Acadia from 1604 to 1710. He is now printing a new edition of his first work, which will contain a second volume treating of the history of the Acadians from 1710 to the present time. It is also understood that he will publish in French an account of his impressions of his present tour.

The banquet referred to above will take place on the 18th. On the 15th M. Rameau is expected to take part in the grand national fete which is to take place at Rogersville at that date. It is expected that another eminent historian of the Acadians, Abbe Casgrain, will also be present that day. Other speakers announced for the occasion are Hon. P. A. Landry, M. P., Senator Poirier and Dr. Belliveau.
