Loyalist Day. -- A very pleasant day was ushered in by a royal salute at 6 o’clock at the Barrack Square by Capt. Kane’s Battery, No. 1 N. B. B. G. A. The Government being too poor to allow of the firing away of 99 rounds of ammunition, the gallant artillerymen had to content themselves with firing a royal salute on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the landing of the Loyalists. Outside of the public schools the day is not being commemorated as a holiday. The great anniversary celebration is, of course, postponed until evening, when people will enter more fully into the spirit of “the day we celebrate.” On the public buildings, and on all private ones which sport flag poles, bunting is unfurled to the kindly breeze, there being an especially profuse display at the Custom House. It will be advisable for persons attending the Institute to-night to get their tickets before going to the Hall. Tickets are for sale at the stores of R. D. McArthur, A. C. Smith & Co., M. V. Paddock, M. Harrison, T. B. Barker & Sons, Royal Hotel, W. Hawker, Chubb & Co., Parker & Nevins, and other book and drug stores.
