The Committee of Arrangements met last evening in the Mayor's office, and after some deliberation adopted the following resolutions and adjourned until May 10th to receive reports of committees:— 1. That His Worship the Mayor request the Lieutenant Governor to proclaim the 18th May a public holiday throughout the Province. 2. That the following named persons be appointed a committee to arrange for a display of fire-works on the evening of the 18th of May, and to invite the band of the 63rd Rifles from Halifax to play during the performance, viz.: Col. Foster, Capt, Blois, the Chief of the Fire Department, Aldermen T. N. Robertson and Grant. 3. That the following named persons be appointed a committee to make arrangements for having an oration delivered on the 18th May in St. Andrew's Church, viz: Alds Butt, Skinner, and C. A. Robertson. 4. That His Worship the Mayor be requested to make arrangements for having a service held in Trinity Church on the 18th of May. 5. That His Worship the Mayor, by notice in the public papers, request the citizens to light up their places of business and dwelling houses on the evening of the 18th of May, and have all blinds up. 6. That the committee recommend in their report to the Council that the Councils of the cities of St. John and Portland join in the procession on the 18th of May, and, if possible, that a guard of honor be procured from the Kings County Cavalry regiment.
