FREDERICTON, Feb. 25th Mr. Johnson gave notice of a resolution: that the interests of the French population of the House, have been injured by the appointment of English Commissioners to take the census among the French population. The debate on Mr. Blair’s resolution was continued this afternoon by Mr. Landry in a speech of considerable length in which he defended the Government policy. He declared himself in favor of the abolition of the Legislative Council but against the discontinuance of an official residence for the Governor and reduction in the number of the Executive. He claimed that the Government were exercising most economical management in public affairs. Mr. Willis followed in the opposition side and spoke up to the hour of adjournment. At six o’clock the debate was adjourned until 2:30 on Monday. Legislative Council Fredericton, Feb. 25. The Corporation’s Bill Committee reported favorably on bill relating to auctioneers. The House went into Committee on the Bill, Mr. Ryan in the chair. Mr. Hanington said the object of referring the bill to a committee was to see if it would not be better to include a section to repeal a portion of the Auctioneer’s Act in the Consolidated Statues as to the percentage paid the Government by the Auctioneers, which was virtually a dead letter. The bill passed without amendment.
