Acadiensis The first number of “Acadiensis: a Quarterly devoted to the interests of the Maritime Provinces of Canada,” has reached us. The editor is David Russel Jack and the magazine is published under the auspices of the Acadian Society composed of the following gentlemen: William Bayard, M. D., J. Roy Campbell, J. Gordon Forbes, Rev. D.J. Fraser, Rev. W.C Gaynor, James Jack, Dr. Jack, W.C. Milner, F. H. J. Ruel. S. D. Scott, and Dr. A.A. Stockton. “It is intended,” says the editor in his salutary, “to deal largely with matters historical, but descriptive, scientific, or philosophical contributions will be welcomed. This first number contains a biographical sketch; of John Grant by T. Watson Smith: a similar sketch of David Owen, the founder of Campbello [Campobello], by Mrs. Kate Gannett Wells: and a valuable article by the well known Acadian antiquarian, Mr. Placida P. Gaudet in Jacau de Fiedmond. The translation of this article from the French was done for the Acadiensis by the Rev. W. C. Gaynor. These are the leading articles, Altogether the new magazine promises well and we hope it will meet with a satisfactory welcome from the lovers of good reading throughout the Maritime Province.
