BY TELEGRAPH. SPECIAL DESPATCHES. TO THE DAILY TIMES. The French Demonstration at Quebec. Quebec, June 24th. Tens of thousands met at mass this A.M. on the Plains of Abraham. A trained choir, numbering hundreds, assisted by thirty bands, rendered the Chants, making the surrounding walls re-echo like a vast Cathedral. The throng then formed in procession amid the roar of cannon, and entered the city by the St. John gate proceeding through a forest of flags and maple foliage, with which the streets were decorated. Speeches in the Dufferin Terrace followed. Hundreds attended the banquet in the skating rink that evening. The Marquis of Lorne sat beside the Chairman and when his health was drank he responded in French, amid frantic cheers. He was present at the morning mass, and invited a number of friends to lunch at the Citadel during the afternoon. The Hon. P. A. Landry responded to the toast, “Nos Freres les Acadians,” amid great enthusiasm. The interior of the skating rink was amass of flags and foliage, and was a blaze of gas light. There were three bands present, and the enthusiasm of the French audience made a stirring scene.
