LOYALIST MEMORIAL. A St. John Man Seconds the Proposal of a Statue to the Queen. SIR:-- I have just read with great pleasure the letter of a St. John lady, in your paper of the 20th inst., concerning the Centennial Memorial. It has been reserved for a woman to make the most sensible, graceful and acceptable proposition, in my humble opinion, which could be offered for the consideration of St. John’s loyal and warm-hearted people, excepting the Memorial Hall, which would be by all odds the fittest form the memorial could take. But as the hall is out of the question, apparently, I, for one, most heartily second the proposition to erect a Statue of our noble and gracious Queen, on some central and suitable location, where it could be seen by all, strangers and visitors, natives and all who have their abode in our “dear little city,” as your fair correspondent terms it. And who will be more fitting and suitable to unveil this statue than her son-in-law, our worthy and respected Governor General, who with his royal wife, the daughter of our Queen, would grace an occasion worthy of their presence. Now, Sir, if you will start a “Statue boom,” to use an Americanism, I think that it will meet with a most gratifying response from all who hail from your city. Boston, Sept. 23. A ST. JOHN MAN.
