PREPARING FOR THE FIRST LOYALIST ANNIVERSARY. Reference has been made by at least one of our city papers, to the arrangements in progress, under the direction of Mr. J. W. LAWRENCE, and such other gentlemen as he can get to help him carry them out, for the due celebration of our next Loyalist Anniversary, the 18th of May, the 99th in our history. It may be well, however, that the matter should be kept before the public. It is hoped that His Honor, the LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR, will be present on behalf of the Province; that the CHIEF JUSTICE will represent the Justiciary, and that the Senate, the House of Commons, the Pulpit and the Press, as well as civic interests, will be appropriately represented. It is intended that the addresses shall be short, sharp and decisive, dealing with specific topics in a pointed manner, the entire celebration bearing upon the Loyalist Centenary of 1883. Music will lend its potent aid to the occasion, Mr. PEILER having kindly taken that matter in hand. It is probable that more particular attention may be drawn to the matter, at an early day, through the Press by Mr. LAWRENCE, who will have conferred an additional favor on the city and the Province, should health and strength be continued to him to assist in promoting and carrying out the Centenary Celebration of 1883. As not only the Industrial Arts, but the early history and antiquities of the Province should be illustrated at the celebration of 1883, we would again remind all interested that preparations should not be delayed, and that the Governments of the Maritime Provinces, at least, interested as they are in each other’s Centennial celebrations, might undertake to make contributions of an antiquarian kind, fitted to cast light on the early history of the Province.
